992.1 vs 992.2 Turbo S: What Changes for Tuning

The 992.2 Turbo S looks like a light facelift of the 992.1, but for tuning it is a different car. The 992.1 uses a conventional twin-turbo engine with VTG turbochargers. The 992.2 adds a T-Hybrid system with electrically assisted turbochargers, and that changes how power is unlocked. This guide sets out what changes, using the figures from our own packages for each car.

The 992.1 Turbo S: VTG turbos and a long upgrade path

The standard 992.1 Turbo S has a 3.7-litre twin-turbo flat-six with VTG turbos, rated at 650PS (641bhp) and 800Nm. Our packages take it step by step from a bolt-on exhaust and tune to fully built engines:

  • ES700 – 840BHP: 3″ ES exhaust and ES custom ECU tune.
  • ES780 – 880+BHP: adds CSF intercoolers, a TCU (gearbox) tune and methanol injection.
  • ES800 – 950BHP: ES hybrid VTG turbochargers, ES headers and our 3D-printed intake, on UK pump fuel.
  • ES900 – 1,000+BHP: the ES800 hardware plus methanol injection, our flagship package on the standard turbo housings.
  • ES1100 and ES1300: built 3.9 and 4.1-litre engines for owners chasing 8-second quarter miles.

The 992.2 Turbo S: one integrated hybrid system

The 992.2 Turbo S combines its combustion engine with an advanced hybrid system and electrically assisted turbochargers. Rather than treating the ECU, the hybrid system and the electric turbos as separate parts, we recalibrate the powertrain as one system, so engine management, hybrid assistance, boost control and electric turbo operation stay synchronised.

  • ES750 – 930 bhp (790 whp) on 99 RON: calibration only, with no hardware. 0–60 mph in 2.0–2.1 seconds and a 9.7-second quarter mile.
  • ES800 – 965 bhp (820 whp) on 99 RON: the ES calibration plus a valved exhaust, with 0–60 mph in 1.8 seconds and a 9.2-second quarter mile at 145 mph.

Both stages run on 98 RON with lower output, and ES800 offers optional multi-fuel map switching.

Same names, different packages

Both cars have an ES800, and the 992.2 has an ES750, but they are not the same packages. On the 992.1, ES800 means ES hybrid VTG turbos, headers and a 3D-printed intake. On the 992.2, ES800 is a calibration with a valved exhaust, built around the T-Hybrid system. The T-Hybrid system and electric turbochargers are recalibrated together with the engine, so the 992.2 has its own stages.

Which car is easier to take further?

The 992.1 has the longer upgrade path today, from a bolt-on exhaust and tune through hybrid turbos to built 3.9 and 4.1-litre engines. The 992.2 starts higher: a calibration on its own takes it to 930 bhp on 99 RON. Whichever car you have, every ESMotor package is calibrated individually for its fuel and how it will be used.
